My statement on President Trump’s decision to hike tariffs on Canadian goods to 50%
As Michiganders, we know better than anyone that Canada is one of America’s most critical allies. So the President’s decision to hike tariffs on Canadian goods to 50% is reckless and will be passed down to American companies and consumers.
Included on the list: 36 types of plywood — meaning U.S. housing construction costs could further increase. Also hockey sticks, alcohol, fishing rods and goose-down jackets may see a price hike too. All when costs are already too high.
A few weeks ago, I rode across the Gordie Howe Bridge for the first time and met with the Mayor of Windsor, Drew Dilkens. Our nations can achieve great things when we work together.
But these on again, off-again tariffs on our allies -- and the chaos around them -- must end.
